Day 2: Lesson Learned

Day 2 of my Journey.

What lesson have I learned?

Go through all the stuff that comes with your camera before jumping in!

You WILL discover that there are some cool things that come with it.

Like instructions manuals (which I DID go through)

but also tips and secrets that you've been looking for!

For instance: Trying to take snapshots of the animals (at the zoo), but bars get in the way? What to do?
It's easy to get rid of distracting elements like cage bars - with a little know-how!
1. Simply set your lens to telephoto
2. Choose the Av mode and hold the aperture as wide open as possible (I still have to learn what aperture is!).
3. Approach the cage as close as safely possible and shoot.
Now, see how well the shot turns out. The cage bars are gone, and the animals look like they're in the wild.

So I went outside and took some shots with my camera and played with those buttons again....

Lesson learned? Take notes of what button you are messing with so that you know what you are blogging about. Obviously whichever one it was...it lets more light in as I go. These were all taken the same time yet it looks like different times of the day.

These are different shots of my mom's Koi.
The fish are beautiful but I can't get rid of the glare from the water...what to do.

I did something different each time I took a picture of this statue...but I don't see any difference.

Back to the pond again. The second shot was automatic setting (I think).

Yeah, I need to take notes. I like the second picture of the statue better...

The pond...again

The fish like to play peek-a-boo in case you haven't noticed.
O.k...these I like. Again, played with a button...messed with the light...

This one the statue practically disappears..

This one I like best.

Watched some of the DVD that came with my camera while I was waiting for the pictures to upload. I'm thinking I will be watching it everyday...at least for the next 3 weeks. This camera needs to be second nature to me if I'm going to take AMAZING shots at this wedding!
